Tunisian Revolution

The 2010-2011 Tunisian revolution is an intensive campaign of civil resistance, including a series of street demonstrations taking place in Tunisia. The events began in December 2010 and led to the ousting of longtime President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011.

This issue starts from the protests were sparked by the self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi on December 17. After Mohamed Bouazizi dead, hundreds of young people demonstrate in front of the city hall, and they also play the video that the conflict between police and protester on facebook & youtube to everybody know it. The result of this revolution led to the ousting of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali 28 days later on 14 January 2011, when he officially resigned after fleeing to Saudi Arabia, ending 23 years in power.

For this revolution, I think that most of protesters just want to express their opinions and lead to the ousting of their President. Owing to they are not satisfied of their life, such as inflation, decayed government and they also do not have freedom of speech, so that’s why the people are so angry. I admire those protester that they are not afraid the might of government and resist with them. Finally, they are successes and their President Zine El Abidine flees to Saudi Arabia.

Lunar Chinese New Year

The Lunar Chinese New Year is the most significant festival for the Chinese around the world. It is the time that people can take a break from work or school to get together with their family and friends. For the parents, it’s the busy days that they should clean the house and prepares the stuff and food for the New Year. For the children, they love this festival that their parents would buy new clothes, shoes and gave red envelopes to them.

In my memory, on Lunar Chinese New Year’s Eve, all of my family members, uncles, aunts, cousins…etc. who are no longer living at home make a special effort to return home for reunion and share in a sumptuous meal with my grandparents. After the meal, it’s the happiest time for children that we can receive the “lucky money” from the elders which with full of cash in red envelopes. My cousins and I also try to stay up all night to welcome the New Year, as it has long been believed that by so doing on New Year’s Eve, our parents would live a longer life. We saw drama, played cards, games, and set off fireworks until New Year coming. During the Chinese New Year, everywhere full of joy and happiness.

However, in recent years, both of my grandparents were passed away, and most of my cousins got married and had their own children. We never gather together during the Chinese New Year in these years. And now, the mood of Lunar Chinese New Year is less than less. It is just like normal holidays. But I still like this Festival, owing to only on the Lunar Chinese New Year Holidays; I can take a break from my work.

Low Birth Rate in Taiwan

According to the reporting that “The government is considering allowing families that have a second child to hire foreign nannies in order to attempting the raise the country’s low birth rate”. For this policy, is it really can raise the country’s low birth rate? And why are young people so resistant to having babies?

In my opinion, I think this proposal that have a second child can hire foreign nannies will not help increasing the birth rate; it’s only the rich are able to hire foreign nannies to look after their children. In order to raise Taiwan’s very low birth rate, the Interior Ministry has not only asking the “slogan” to encourage couple to have child, but also preparing to spend NT$600 million to encourage couples to have more than two child. There are to be no income limits, allowing parents at all levels of society to take advantage. Every month until the child is two years old, the parents will receive NT$3,000 towards daycare fees. However, some members of the public think children are too expensive and others say it would be unreasonable to expect the government to pay the full cost of raising a child. Children are a part of their families, and some government subsidy is better than none at all.

Besides, I think, there is also a "money" problem that young people are resistant to have babies -- wages so low, housing and education costs so high. Probably the best solution is perfect society welfare of child, as like education that can improve our low birth rate. So that the parents cannot worry their child, he or she can grow up safety and happiness in this society. It’s really not the good ideas to hire nannies that has second child.

The Book of “RICH DAD, POOR DAD”

I read the book of “Rich Dad Poor Dad” in this winter vacation. It is a book by Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter. It discusses financial independence through investing, real estate, owning businesses, and the use of finance protection strategy.

The book highlights the different attitudes to money, work and life of two men, and how they in turn influenced in Kiyosaki's life. According to Kiyosaki and Lechter, eash dad had a different way of teaching his son that how to get rich.

Some of the book's topics are:
• the value of financial intelligence.
• that corporations spend first, then pay taxes, while individuals must pay taxes first.
• that corporations are artificial entities that anyone can use, but the poor usually don't know how.

There are a lot of futures of this book. First, it's declaration that it isn't a get-rich-quick book, you should follow it step by step. Second, there's the repeated claim that "the rich" have "secrets" that led to their success and will be revealed. Third, the material is presented as a series of "lessons. It’s really worth to read it if you would like to be rich. However, the book which I read is Chinese version, I will try to read it in English version. It must be a big challenge for me.

My Best Friend

Friends are very important in our life. Fortunately, I have a lot of friends in my different studying stage. One of my best friends is my schoolmates of junior high school, her name is Selina. We studied at the same elementary school; however, we don’t know each other during that time until the junior high school.

The first date of the school, the teacher asked us to introduce ourselves, so that I knew we came from the same elementary school. Selina, has a very nice personality, wonderful sense of humor, friendly and enthusiastic about helping people. Although, both of us have different friends in the class; however, she always can find that when I get depress, and always encourage me to cheer up and give my best advice. She is very smart. Usually, she did not spend too much time on studying, but her grade was pretty high. She is not only very good at mathematics, but also at sport. She have had bronze medal of running from athletic meet of junior high school at Taipei County.
Of course, sometimes we have different ideas and quarrel with each other. I did not talk with her more than a week, till she said sorry to me. After the communicating, we further understood each other and more cherish our friendship.

We knew each other since we were 13 years old, until now almost 20 years. I know I can rely on her very much. Even when our lives get busy so far, but we still make time to go out with each other two times at least a year. Anyway, Selina is still my best friend, and nothing can change it. I believe that our friendship will until forever.
